Who Needs A Doctor?
Mark 2:17, "On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” NIV
Beloved, here we are in the midst of the flu season and in addition we have those infected with the corona virus arriving in our backyard. Many of us are in need of a doctor, but even with all the illness surrounding us there is a greater disease among us, that of sin.
Sin devastates people’s lives. It takes us further than we want to go, it costs more than we want to pay and it keeps us longer than we want to stay. It destroys lives. But thankfully there is a remedy, a cure, a vaccine that is available to all, Jesus Christ. How do we access Jesus?
First we need to recognize a couple of things about us: one, we are sick and two we are sinners. Certainly this was true of us before we came to Christ. We understood that we were sinners who were desperately ill in need of a doctor, or Savior. We found out His name was Jesus Christ who came to save sinners and thus we gave our lives to the Lord.
But even as believers we continue to struggle with sin and we still need our doctor, our Savior to come and rescue us as 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” It is not that we lose our Savior, but sin affects our relationship with Him and we need to continually allow Jesus to cleanse us.
Thankfully He is not only able but willing as Hebrews 4:15–16 says, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hence, when I am sick, either physically or spiritually, I need a doctor! In many ways the Great Physician is present to meet my needs!
I pray that you will have a blessed week! I love you and I will be praying for you!
