The Word of Grace Devotion for the Week of August 4, 2014
The Lord is My Light!
Psalm 27:1-2, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall.”
Beloved, fear can make cowards of us all. It has the ability to cause us to worry incessantly and lead us to make rash and unclear decisions. King David understood fear. He was constantly on the run from King Saul and thus continually feared for his life. King Saul wanted David dead and King David ran.
Beloved, as I read Psalm 27 I learn that it is ok to run from fear as long as I run into the loving arms of my Savior just as King David did again and again. Unfortunately when fear enters into our life, we tend to run away from the Lord instead of to the Lord. We allow fear to run and ruin our lives.
We learn that when King David feared, he ran to the Lord. If we would continue to read in Psalm 27 we see where King David ran, Psalm 27:4- “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.” As he worshipped the Lord and sat in his presence, his fear subsided and his faith and trust in the Lord increased.
King David understood that the Lord was his “light and salvation.” He understood that in God’s presence he had nothing to fear, “of whom shall I be afraid?” Again and again God had showed Himself faithful to King David just as He reveals His faithfulness to us.
Beloved, when the enemy comes in like a flood, when fear overwhelms your heart, remember to run to Jesus. Surrender your fears to Him. Allow Him to fill you with His presence. Allow the Lord to be the stronghold of your life! Remember, our God is a big God!
I pray that you will have a blessed week. I love you and I will be praying for you!
