The Word of Grace Devotion for the Week of April 25, 2016
Psalm 94:8-11, “Understand, O dullest of the people! Fools, when will you be wise? 9He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see? 10He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke? He who teaches man knowledge--11the Lord—knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath.”
Beloved, futility has been described as useless, pointless, ineffective and senseless. Futile is the way of those who think that they know better than anyone…including the Lord. Nothing could be further from the truth as Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
The Psalmist writing in Psalm 94 understood this as he wrote, “Understand, O dullest of the people! Fools, when will you be wise?” He goes on to describe some attributes of God, “9He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see? 10He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke? He who teaches man knowledge--11the Lord—knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath.” In other words, God is our Creator and God knows best. He hears everything, He sees everything, and He knows everything.
God knows that we often attempt to go at it alone, that we often look to worldly wisdom rather than Godly wisdom. Thus, Psalm 94 is admonishing us to look to God for wisdom rather than ourselves. Beloved, if you are looking for wisdom, don’t look in yourself, but look to God asProverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.”
Beloved, our ways and thoughts can often be pointless, and useless. Why don’t we rather invest our time to get know God and His ways because His way is always the right way! Beloved, our thoughts “are but a breath,” but His thoughts are way above ours as Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Beloved, I pray that you will have a blessed week! I love you and I will be praying for you!
