The Word of Grace Devotion for the Week of February 19, 2018
In God We Trust Psalm 37:16-19, "Better is the little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked. 17For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous. 18The Lord knows the days of the blameless, and their heritage will remain forever; 19they are not put to shame in evil times; in the days of famine they have abundance.” ESV Beloved, “In God We Trust” is the official motto of the United States of America. It was adopted as the nation's motto in 1956 as a replacement or alternative to the unofficial motto of E pluribus unum, which was adopted when the Great Seal of the United States was created and adopted in 1782. It almost seems ironic that “In God We trust” would be placed on our currency (money). It leads us to the question, “Are we trusting in money or in God?” I ask that question not only to you but to myself as well. DO I truly trust God more than I trust money? Concerning this issue, I love what The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians in 4:10–13, “I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. 11Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Beloved, we all know that there are days (seasons) of abundance and days (seasons) of famine. The reality is that I must learn to trust God when I have abundance and when I seem to lack. Concerning money, David Guzik said this: “A God-trusting, righteous life is the best long-term investment strategy.” Lord, help us to live a righteous life trusting You over money! In God we trust indeed! I pray that you will have a blessed week! I love you and I will be praying for you! In Jesus’ Name- Pastor Joe
