The Word of Grace Devotion for the Week of May 9, 2016
Psalm 106:24-27, “Then they despised the pleasant land, having no faith in his promise. 25They murmured in their tents, and did not obey the voice of the Lord. 26Therefore he raised his hand and swore to them that he would make them fall in the wilderness, 27and would make their offspring fall among the nations, scattering them among the lands.”
Beloved, isn’t it wonderful to see how the Lord works and how He ties things together. Yesterday during Sunday service we studied Jude 1:5 concerning Israel’s apostasy and unbelief. Interestingly enough, in my morning devotion through the Bible, I got to read about the exact same thing in Psalm 106. The Lord wants to make a point and so we take heed to His admonition.
Psalm 106:24 says, “Then they despised the pleasant land, having no faith in his promise.” Beloved, the root of Israel’s apostasy was unbelief, unbelief in the promises of God. Yesterday we found out in 1 Corinthians 10:1-12 that unbelief leads to idolatry, sexual immorality, testing God and grumbling. In each of those situations God dealt very harshly with the Israelites.
The Lesson learned for us is this: if we desire more of God then we need to bind our faith with our obedience. Israel failed to do this as Psalm 106:25 says, “They murmured in their tents, and did not obey the voice of the Lord.” And because they failed to this the Lord did this, Psalm 106:26-27, “Therefore he raised his hand and swore to them that he would make them fall in the wilderness, 27and would make their offspring fall among the nations, scattering them among the lands.”
Beloved, achieving the abundant life which Jesus promised in John 10:10 begins with faith and follows through with obedience. When we believe God at His Word and follow through on that belief, out lives will be blessed. We have a choice. We can continue to wander in the wilderness of this world or we can choose to believe God’s Word, obey it and reap the bountiful blessings that will flow out of a deep relationship with God. Let’s choose God!
Beloved, I pray that you will have a blessed week! I love you and I will be praying for you!
In Jesus’ Name,
