The Word of Grace Devotion for the Week of March 7, 2016
Mark 13:32-37, “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. 34It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. 35Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— 36lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”
Beloved, I am asked from time to time when will Jesus return? The truth is that no one knows the exact time as Mark 13:32 says, “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” But, though we do not know the time we do know what we should be doing, we should be staying awake!
Four times in Mark 13:32-37 we are told to either keep awake or to stay awake. The stated emphasis to stay awake informs us that it is imperative that we stay awake, “36lest he come suddenly and find you asleep.”
To “stay awake” implies that we are alert and ready for the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But what that does mean? It means, being found faithful to Christ and his commands and not letting laziness or complacency or distractions come between us and our commitment to Jesus.
Beloved, don’t be found asleep at your post. Keep watch! Stay awake! Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbors as yourselves. Do well the work that God has given you to do, loving Him and each other and being faithful witnesses to the world of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I pray that you will have a blessed week! I love you and I will be praying for you!
