Truth and Love
Mark 12:28-34, "And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” 32And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. 33And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” 34And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions." Good Morning! We learn two important truths from the above passage in Mark’s Gospel. One is obvious and the other not so obvious.
The not so obvious truth that we learn about is that the Lord is one! We believe there is one God with three distinct personalities, Father, Son and Holy Spirit- but ultimately God is one! This truth cannot be overlooked. Israel was wrought with the idolatry of many different nations and fought to abstain from worshipping other false gods. We also live in a world full of false gods, which attempt to drive us to worship them. We also must abstain and solely worship the one true God who is worthy of all praise!
The second truth we learn about today is that the greatest commandment is love. Beloved, if we Love God with our entire self and if we love others as ourselves, we will be doing well. God is more concerned with our inward motives than with a false religious duty as the scribe said, “33And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
Beloved let us remember to love and worship God alone and to love others as ourselves!
I pray that you will have a blessed week! I love you and I will be praying for you!
