THE WORD OF GRACE DEVOTION FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 27, 2015
THE MONEY TEST
MALACHI 3:10, “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.”
Beloved, money is a test. The first test that money makes is that of our work ethic. If we do not have enough to live on, we need to look at how we work and how much we work. Are we able to work and do we work as unto the Lord? The first test is our work ethic. Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
Beloved, money is a test. The second test money makes is that of our self-control. If we spend more than we earn we will find ourselves in serious debt. Money tests our self-control. We must learn not to overspend but to live within our means. Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
Beloved, money is a test. Thirdly money is a test of our integrity. How did we arrive at our current status? Have we paid our taxes? Have we given our tithe? Money tests our integrity and how we handle our money. Romans 13:6-7 says, “For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. 7Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 says, “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Beloved, money is a test. Even God asks that we test Him when it comes to money, “And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” In fact this is the only time that the Lord asks us to test Him. By the way, God has never failed this test.
So how did you do? Do you pass the money test or are there areas of your life that need work. Beloved, God is gracious and merciful and will work with you if you are willing to work. Money is a test. Do you pass the money test?
Obviously there are exceptions. Some people cannot work and some have no control over the finances. But overall the Lord gives us resources not only to bless us and for us to bless others but also to test our hearts. Remember what Matthew 6:21 says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Also remember the text that Wes Bentley left us with this past Sunday, 2 Samuel 24:24, “But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.”
I pray that you will have a blessed week! I love you and I will be praying for you!
In His love-
