The Word of Grace Devotion for the week of December 28, 2015
THE NEW YEAR
JOSHUA 1:7-8, “Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. 8This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Beloved, a New Year is soon upon us. Looking back at 2015 we cannot undo a single action or take back a single word. Yet before us is a New Year, 2016, a year full of hope and promise if we so desire.
In a sense, Joshua was facing a new year. The Israelites had been wandering in the desert for forty years and were finally about to enter the Promised Land. Moses had passed away and Joshua had taken over command of the Israelites. It was a new challenge filled with hope and promise and yet with difficulties as well. How could Joshua take over for a man described, as the most humble of all, Numbers 12:3, “Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.”
In Joshua 1:7-8 we have the blueprint for a new challenge and a new year. Beloved, your success for the New Year is based on your focus to the Word of God. We do not know what the future holds so we must prepare for anything. In the New Year there will be victories and defeats, and there will be blessed times and stressful times. But in all of it, if we focus on God’s Word we will be prosperous and successful as Joshua 1:8 says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Beloved, in order to meet the challenges of the New Year I would implore to take time each day and devote it to God’s Word. Joshua had a great challenge and he was told to focus on God’s Word. We must do the same!
I pray that you will have a blessed week. I love you and I will be praying for you!
