The Word of Grace Devotion for the Week of February 11, 2019
Exodus 33:13-14, “Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.” 14And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
Beloved, as Moses led the Israelites through the wilderness, they encountered many difficulties. Some were self imposed and others came upon them while in the wilderness. They had just endured a difficult time and Moses wanted to know that no matter what, God was with them. We can learn from Moses and his interaction with God.
First Moses relies on the grace of God. Exodus 33:13 says, “Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.” The word “favor” corresponds to the New Testament concept and word, “Grace.” Moses knew that neither He nor the Israelites could rely on their own merit but solely on the grace of God.
Lesson learned: When we approach God- we must rely on His grace and not on our merit!
Secondly, Moses wanted to know that God would be with them. He asks for God to show him His ways that He would know God. The result would be God’s presence and God’s rest!
To give rest, nu’ach (noo-ahch), means to settle down, to be soothed or quieted; to be secure, to be still and to dwell peacefully. Beloved, when God’s Presence goes with us to show us the way in which we should go – all because of His amazing grace – when that happens, His Presence soothes, comforts, settles, consoles and quiets us.
Lesson learned: rely on God’s grace for His presence and rest.
I realize that so often we ask God to bless our ways when what we actually need is for God to show us His way. When we begin to walk in His ways, to rely on His grace, we learn to trust God and we begin to enjoy His presence and His rest!
I pray that you will have a blessed week enjoying the presence and rest of the Lord! I love you and I will be praying for you!
