The Word of Grace Devotion for November 16, 2020
Ezekiel 33:11, “Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’ NIV
Beloved, the idea that Jesus died on the cross for a preselected few is inconsistent with the veracity of Scripture. Scripture tells us in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Scripture again says in 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
When we couple those Scriptures with Ezekiel 33:11 we envision a clear portrait of a loving God desiring that all His creation turn to Him for their salvation.
However, this does not teach a universal salvation. Ezekiel 33:11 is clear that He takes, “no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?”
Therefore, in order to inherit eternal life there must be a turning away, a repentance from an old way of life to a new way of life in Christ Jesus. Jesus’ death on the cross made it possible for all to be saved but only those who turn to the Lord will be saved.
Beloved, our heavenly Father takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. His heart breaks over the death of an unrepentant sinner. May our hearts break as well over those who have not turned to God. Beloved, we need to pray for the lost that they would come to Jesus!
I pray that you will have a blessed week! I love you and I will be praying for you!
