The Word of Grace Devotion for January 11, 2021
Count The Cost Matthew 8:19-22, "Then one of the teachers of religious law said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” 21Another of his disciples said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” 22But Jesus told him, “Follow me now. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead.” NLB Beloved, before we proceed on any endeavor we need to first estimate the cost of such an endeavor. Before we build a house or add on an addition, we estimate the cost to see if we can afford it. The same truth applies to our lives spiritually. Before we tell Jesus I’ll go wherever, whenever, we need to consider our words. One of the teachers told Jesus, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” “20But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” Jesus wanted the man to understand the depth of his words and the cost it would entail. Another anticipated going but said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.” 22But Jesus told him, “Follow me now. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead.” Beloved, when we make the decision to follow Jesus wholeheartedly it will cost us our time, our talent and our treasure. We must first count the cost before we make such a decision though the truth is that it will be the best decision you could ever make. Beloved, following Jesus with all you have will bless your life and you will find life! Matthew 16:25 says, “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it!” I pray that you will have a blessed week! I love you and I will be praying for you! In Him, Pastor Joe
