When Hopeless, Hope in God!
Acts 27:20, “When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned."
Beloved, when circumstances overwhelm us and all hope is abandoned- we still must hope in the Lord! Picture the scene- Paul is on his way to Rome to stand trial before Caesar and has been placed on a ship sailing towards Rome when a tempest, a strong storm, hits the ship and causes panic. The situation turns so bleak that “all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned."
Beloved, have you ever felt hopeless? Allow me to share a story of a woman on the brink of hopelessness.
“I gripped the steering wheel of my car and stared at the hospital emergency doors. My heart pounded furiously, like a time bomb waiting to explode. The pressure in my head was almost unbearable. The invisible weight on my chest felt like someone dropped a sledgehammer on me. Thoughts raced through my mind. I wanted to scream but could barely breathe a whisper. I just sat there lonely, afraid, shattered and completely empty inside.
Should I check myself into the hospital? What if they admit me in the psychiatric ward and won't let me go home? Who will take care of my children? Will my husband still love me? What if my friends find out?
Reaching for my phone, panic rushed over me like a tidal wave. A pool of tears cascaded down my face, as I cried, Jesus, please help me!”
Beloved, many Christians, like this lady, struggle with times of despair. In like manner, those on the boat with Paul felt that they had lost all hope of survival, “When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned.”
But Paul knew better. God had promised that Paul would indeed make it to Rome and though it looked bleak, Paul trusted in God.
Beloved, when everything looks bleak- turn to God! Psalm 34:15,17-18 says, “The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry. 17When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. 18The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
I pray that you will have a blessed week! I love you and I will be praying for you!
By the way- the lady in the story eventually got help through Christ and the Body of believers!
Hoping in Jesus!
