"A Restless Heart" Psalm 56:8 on this weeks Word of Grace Devotion with Pastor Joe Marquez9/16/2016 The Word of Grace Devotion for the Week of September 12, 2016
A Restless Heart Psalm 56:8, “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?” Beloved, the Lord knows the restlessness of your heart. He knows how many times you tossed and turned all night unable to sleep because of worry. He knows how many tears you have shed in fear, worry, concern, heartache, and anger. He writes down your tossings and places your tears in a bottle. Beloved, the Lord does this to show us that we are not alone in our restlessness. He sees and He cares. So then, how do we cure a restless heart? Beloved, we spend years chasing things we think will make us feel secure. But everything this world offers is temporary. Everything. And everything will leave our souls dry, crying out to God, “I spread out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land” (Psalm 143:6). Beloved, because our souls were designed for God’s fulfilling love, if we aren’t staying closely connected to Him, our hearts will start to feel empty. Restless. Unfulfilled. Parched. Beloved, the kind of security our souls crave will never be found in the things of this world. Lasting, satisfying peace will only be found when we stop chasing others or possessions, and thirst for the things of God. Matthew 6:33-34, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Isaiah 26:3- “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Beloved, the only cure for a restless heart is to seek after the Lord like a thirsty man seeking after water. Again, as Psalm 143:6 says, “I spread out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land” I pray that you will have a bless week and that you will seek after the Lord! I love you and I will be praying for you! In Jesus’ Name, Pastor Joe
